Days 16-24

Ok I am really bad about posting the updates here, we have had a bit of an interesting month...lots going on but there is a lot of learning going on even that isn't being taught.

Yesterday Lauren did a math problem--a complex (at least for 1st grade) 3 step addition problem with out all of the facts, and it was RIGHT...

We were watching TV, I know a horrible waste of time...but obviously its not such a waste of time when learning is occurring.
The Sentence was, Actually, I have 6 big sisters and 3 little ones, Lauren looks at me and says That's 10 kids altogether....we were so proud, she has done Tom and Jerry Multiplication, and now Suite Life on Deck triple addition.

I try to show her math every chance we get because it surrounds us in every aspect of life, but often times I miss it as much as she does.

We have been working on seasonal worksheets this month and today she did some creative writing based off of a picture.

With no help from me, we have Three sentences, spelling errors and all... I will scan the picture in later this week.

The sun is shineing.
The apples are growing.
The ballons are floting.

Usually she asks for help spelling all words she doesn't know but this I wanted her to do with no help....she did pretty good if I do say so myself.

She did it

Today without fuss Lauren finished her school work NEATLY and in only TWO hours.

She usually makes school take all day since she is always fighting doing it....it drives me bonkers.

Today she was wonderful, it felt so good to her to be able to tell daddy she was done when he came out for lunch.

Days 12-14

We have been busy. Today we did Home Ec, She helped me cook and clean, just as important to learn probably more so when it comes to the real world.

Earlier this week, she has done math, science and a lot of art. She is also reading quite a bit and enjoying every moment.

Our borrowed curriculum should be here soon, I hope.

Days 10 and 11

Well yesterday we got a lot accomplished, she is really learning a lot on her math.

She was struggling with her math facts, so I decided instead of fighting her to get her to learn it (she has a good grasp, just struggles with the fact that 5+3 is the same as3+5 and so she gets really frustrated) I had her choose 5 problems she was really struggling with, took their answers and basically wrote out ALL of the problems with those answers, so instead of doing just 5+3=8 she had to do 7+1, 6+2, 5+3, 4+4, 3+5, 6+2, and 7+1 We did that with 5 problems, so in reality she did 25 problems or so instead since some numbers ended up overlapping.
I think its time to invest in triangle flash cards.

She also worked on some phonics, language arts (choosing plural or singular) and more measuring.

Today is a light day, she will just be doing her math sheet and she is playing the Magic School bus game she has which covers, Mars and dinosaurs.

I am glad we can have quieter days so that I can do my homework too.

Day 9

Well, we are kicking into high gear, today we officially started the first grade, we tried last week, but since the rest of the week was total chaos, we are starting over today.

This morning Lauren worked on reading, telling time, the days of the week (more for handwriting practice and ordering than anything)

This afternoon, she is doing language arts, phonics and math.

Day 8

Today is our Official first day of school, yesterday was supposed to be but a doctors appointment kept me busy all day.

Today we are doing First Grade Phonics, finishing off Kindergarten Math, and working on our handwriting.
